Standard Bar and Grill Plan Off the Table

Bedrock Management's plan to transform the Source Theatre on 14th Street into Standard Bar and Grill has been withdrawn, The Washington Post reports.

A nonprofit group has purchased the building with plans to turn it into an arts center.

In related news, Bedrock is planning a new billiards spot at 714 Seventh St. NW.

Do you know where Matchbox is opening up its second location?

Good question. The expansion of the current location is set to open in September, and I hear the 14th Street corridor could be an option for #2. Nothing official yet though.

That would be the third Matchbox location...

Right you are. Though I'm not sure the new place will be a Matchbox or a new concept.

wow--as a resident of Logan, I think a Matchbox location on 14th Street would be amazing. I wonder if it would hurt Coppi's, another love of mine in the area.

I really don't think so. There is room for two quality places. Lord knows we still don't have many in the Logan area.

Anyone know what Axis on U St is supposed to be like?

Axis (or as its company name is called) looked like some progress to the storefront had been made, but I have yet to hear who's behind it.

I did peek in the coffeeshop at 14 and U though during the Dog Days event last weekend - it'll be called 1 4 U (one for you), and looked to be coming along inside.
