Westend Bistro Does Pop-Up BBQ

This Friday, Westend Bistro launches a made-for-summer pop-up concept on its patio. Chef Eric Ripert and chef de cuisine Joe Palma have created a new barbecue stand that will operate Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. And the menu is quite a steal.

Sandwiches like shredded chicken with an Eastern North Carolina-style vinegar sauce run $6, and a picnic basket lunch for just $14 includes a choice of meat, slaw, a fluffy biscuit (Palma, I want that biscuit recipe!), dessert and tea or lemonade.

Guests will queue up along the sidewalk to pick up lunch from the cash-only stand.

Ripert was in town Monday to host a preview lunch for the new concept. But sorry kids, he's probably not going to be dishing up your Texas-style beef brisket or pulled pork on a regular basis.

Here's a peek at the menu:

This suddenly brought back memories of the crazy, random lunch specials Roberto Donna used to run out of the teaching kitchen at Galileo. Man, I would kill for some of the green sauce today...
