Win 2 Top Dog Half Smoke Challenge Tickets!

There's a super cool fundraiser coming up this Sunday for one of Metrocurean's favorite local organizations, Brainfood, and you have a chance to win 2 tickets!

Ten chefs will put forth their best interpretation of DC’s iconic local dish in the first annual Top Dog Half-Smoke Challenge, hosted by Domaso on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Here's the deal: Leave a comment below with your ideal half smoke toppings by Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m., and two winners will be announced at noon. Winners must email me at metrocurean@gmail.com by Thursday afternoon to claim the two tickets each.

For those of you not willing to risk going ticketless, admission is $20 per person and includes samples of all 10 half smokes, a signature Skyy Vodka cocktail, tax and gratuity. Additional food and beverage will be available for sale.

Domaso will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the event to benefit Brainfood, a great group that helps build life skills and promotes healthy living for DC high school students.

Check out full details for the Top Dog Half-Smoke Challenge here.

I think you stick with the classic DC version thanks to Ben's Chili Bowl - top it with the works: Mustard, Onion, Chili, and Cheese!

I think traditional Ben's-style is ideal-- chili, cheese, mustard, onions.

A merguez made of half beef, half mutton (to keep with the half of the half smoke concept), with a chili spiced with harissa served on French bread and with a side of French fries bien sur.

You can't beat lots of chili and cheese!

I could always go for a chili cheese half-smoke, but for something a little different, I would top mine with kimchi-fried rice, cheese and fresh cabbage slaw. Supreme version: add spicy BBQ pork.

If picked please give my tickets to your husband.

Sauteed onions, spicy mustard and jalapenos!

Red cabbage sourkraut and some fresh, raw mustard would make a half-smoke sing a tune I'd like to hear.

Onions and Sauerkraut. or kimchi if you're feeling crazy. Nothing else is necessary.

I would love to try one with avocado slices, a spicy smoky salsa, and some cotija cheese. If we're going crazy, I would smear the bun with mayo and crunch some tortilla chips on top. Squeeze of lime, a cold Sol, and hello summer...

Fun event today, the rain held off and I ate about 5 lbs of half smokes. I think the Source had the best dogs, but PS7 won the judge's vote and Firefly won the people's vote.

What did everyone else think?

So sad I missed it! Thanks for the report, Guy.
