Scoop: Food News Round-Up

Shake off your holiday weekend stupor. It's time to play catch up on a host of new openings around town.

• I hear Jack Rose, the new whiskey bar and restaurant from the Bourbon team, should be officially throwing open the doors any day now near the corner of 18th and Florida. The new spot will serve upwards of 1,000 whiskeys.

• Bolstering DC's lobster roll influx, Luke's Lobster opened Thursday at 624 E St. NW in Penn Quarter. Sized up the lobster roll yet?

• From the creators of Capitol City Brewing and Vida Fitness comes 901 Restaurant and Bar, now open at 901 Ninth St. NW. Read more in Restaurant Watch.

Serendipity 3 opened Monday in Georgetown. Read more in Restaurant Watch.

Peregrine Espresso's new 14th Street shop opened last week with Counter Culture coffee, Buzz Bakery pastries and a few more sweet treats.

• Joining Bobby's Burger Palace in College Park's Varsity building, a "luxury" student housing complex, Austin Grill will open its first Austin Grill Express, a fast-casual version of the Tex-Mex chain, in August.

• The Rockville location of the Brit-inspired Againn has closed.

Jack Rose's roof-top opened Friday night, I was there at 5pm on Saturday, had some tasty beef sandwiches. Amazing space, though the rooftop doesn't have the amazing liquor selection downstairs has. Bartender told me the main floor won't be open for a few weeks but not sure if that's true.

Sounds like the concept wasn't resonating there. The Post says the owner may put in a new concept, same location.
