Mike Isabella is turning to the food of his childhood with the Italian-inspired Graffiato, a hot newcomer that opened at 707 Sixth St. NW. The place has been packed since opening in late June.

"During my whole career, I never wanted to cook Italian food because I grew up with it," the New Jersey native says. "As I get older, it started bringing me back to my roots."

Graffiato fits 150 seats over two floors and serves wood-fired pizzas, pastas, charcuterie and small plates. For more, check out the video above.

Isabella was previously head chef at Jose Andres' Zaytinya. He came in second place on Bravo's Top Chef All-Stars.
