5 Bites: Danielle Tergis

1. The balsamic marinated sweet Italian onions from Trader Joe’s. I absolutely love these on an arugula salad with walnuts, parmesan cheese from the The Italian Store and ripe cherry tomatoes from my boyfriend’s mom’s backyard. Dress with a little balsamic vinaigrette. The onions are also great on burgers — my favorite are mahi mahi or organic, free range turkey burgers with a little canola mayonnaise. I love the arugula from Gardener’s Gourmet at the Dupont Circle FreshFarm Market.
2. Any of the seasonal soups and salads from Soupergirl — my most recent favs are the carrot coconut vichyssoise and the red lentil, wheatberry and rice salad
3. Meyer lemon olive oil and blueberry balsamic vinegar from Ah Love Olive Oil and Vinegar in the Village at Shirlington. Mix together and drizzle over pound cake for a quick, easy and super tasty dessert. Top with ice cream and blueberries when they’re in season. Your guests will eat this up — I promise!
4. Carmelized onion Artisan Hummus from Harris Teeter. I could practically eat this by the spoonful, but usually opt for cut up raw veggies instead.
5. Honey Crisp or Ginger Gold apples from Toigo Orchards, which can be found at the Dupont Circle FreshFarm Market or my neighborhood farmers market in Del Ray.
